My Three Songs: 02/28/11

1. Rush - Red Barchetta (from "Moving Pictures")
2. Metallica - King Nothing
3. Talking Heads - Burning Down the House (from "Speaking on Tongues")

Theme :: The King's Speech, last night's winner of the Oscar for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Original Screenplay.

Impressive... Most Impressive...

Impressive that I'm still laughing at this ad every time I see it, even a month after it premiered during the Super Bowl.  Lord Vader is pleased...

Oscar Thoughts

- Kirk Douglas is a pimp!
- They're really letting the speeches go long this year.
- Matthew McConaghey and Scarlet Johansson totally got stoned backstage!
- They let Marissa Tomei host the technical Oscars because the nerds know her naked roles from The Wrestler and Before The Devil Knows You're Dead so well.
- Yet somehow I resent Franco calling them nerds.
- Costume design girl was seated in the nosebleeds!
- Jake Gyllenhall and Amy Adams look stoned too!
- As much as I hate auto-tune, that medley of fake musicals was pretty damn funny.
- Oprah? Where's Uma? (I still stand behind Letterman's stint as host)
- Glad Inside Job won for Doc, but really wanted to see a Banksy acceptance speech!
- I totally want to sleep with Anne Hathaway.
- So how pissed is Nicholson that Hugh Jackman got Jack's old seat this year?
- Randy Newman just gave a very "Randy Newman" speech. Very nice!
- Not a ton of huge names on the death list this year. I suppose that's good, but it makes for a boring montage.
- Natalie Portman... Why isn't she mine?! She does talk a lot though.
- Sandra Bullock had way too much Botox. Her face never moved!
- Why is everyone so impressed with Sandra Bullock "as a human being"? Did I miss something? If that's just because her douchebag ex husband cheated on her, then why isn't Hillary Clinton seen as "America's Sweetheart"?
- Jesse Eisenberg on camera but Timberlake behind him was the one in focus.
- Ok, so I actually need to see the King's Speech. Of course I still need to see 127 Hours, Black Swan, Winter's Bone, The Fighter, The Kids Are Alright, and True Grit too.

Oscars Drinking Game!

Just in time for the big ceremonies on Sunday, here's your Oscars drinking game!
(Courtesy of Movie Boozer)
Before the big show, everyone gets an Oscar ballot. They need to pick both who they want to win and who they think will win for each category. It’s not recommended that they be the same, unless you really, really like to drink. This is because:

You drink a shot of champagne (the four dollar stuff will do just fine) whenever who you want to win is announced as the winner of an Oscar.

You drink a shot of wine whenever who you think will win takes home the prize.

Lastly, you drink a shot of something assy (malt liquor, tequila, whatever you think a fitting punishment is) when somebody who you didn’t pick wins.

The winner, if you feel like getting shitfaced isn’t enough, is the person who picked the most think will wins. Tiebreaker is want to wins.

There you have it, an excuse to drink where you thought there was none. You’re welcome.

My Three Songs: 02/24/11

1. Kenny Wayne Shepherd - Blue on Black
2. Van Halen - Top of the World
3. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

Theme :: Wayne's World!  Party Time!  Excellent!

The movie debuted on this day in 1992 and gave us one of the most memorable Queen-related scenes in film:

It also allowed Alice Cooper to teach us all that Milwaukee is Algonquin for "The Good Land."

Ozzy vs. Bieber: Bid for Charity

In case you missed the Ozzy Best Buy ad that ran during the Super Bowl...

They're now auctioning off the space suits that Ozzy and Justin Bieber wore during the commercial, with proceeds going to the Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Right now, Ozzy's suit has a lower bid than Bieber's. I'm not sure what a Bieber is, but don't let it beat the Effing Prince of Darkness!

Baldness in Mice: Cured!

Baldness has been accidentally cured in mice!  Wait, there are bald mice?

Apparently a bunch of scientists were using super-stressed out bald mice to study the effects of stress on your gut by blocking a particular hormone.  I don't know if their ulcers went away, but the stressed mice grew all their hair back.  Check out details on the study here.

Not sure if it will lead to a baldness cure for humans (though I'm hoping!), but at least Mickey can stop wearing that stupid toupee.
But he'd still better pay Jimmy Conway his money.

Incredible "Dead Island" Trailer

Yeah, it's for a video game, but it's one of the most striking trailers I've seen in a long time.  Bonus: zombies!

And here's the trailer re-cut in chronological order. Cool, but not quite as effective.

Jersey Circus

I don't watch Jersey Shore.  I refuse to spend my time watching spoiled, drunken douchebags celebrating the fact that they're spoiled, drunken douchebags.

I don't read the comic Family Circus.  Or at least I haven't since I was about six.  It's too cutesy and wholesome for my tastes.

But I will be checking out the mash-up: Jersey Circus.
That's right, the wholesome little family created by Bill Keane has been given the voices of Snooki, Jwoww, and The Situation.  That's some amusement I can get behind.

My Three Songs: 02/17/11

1. Eagles - Hotel California
2. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man
3. Skid Row - 18 & Life

Theme :: Paris Hilton, the hotel heiress and former star of "The Simple Life," turns 30 today.
And you still would.

Romantic Gesture, or Criminal Activity?

Before you go and make some grand "romantic" gesture for Valentine's Day on Monday, keep the following in mind.  Next time your girl is watching some classic romantic movie moments that make her cry because "they're so in love," and then she's pissed at you because "why don't you ever do stuff like that for me?"  Well, because some of those things will net you some serious jail time.

These chicks watched
Addicted to Love
too many times.
Yes, that's right.  We're talking about stalking, breaking and entering, rape, unlawful imprisonment, suspected terrorist action, rape, poisoning, assault, attempted murder, and... oh yeah... rape.  In real life that's a shitload of jail time.  In the movies, it's just a quirky way to say, "I love you," and live happily ever after.

Check out the full list over at Cracked.com.
